Leeds United have decided against offering Jonathan Douglas and David Lucas new contracts.

No deals for Douglas and Lucas, but Richardson in talks

Leeds United have decided against offering Jonathan Douglas and David Lucas new contracts, but are in talks over an extension for Frazer Richardson. Douglas has spent four years on the Elland Road books, but the midfielder has failed to secure a new deal from manager Simon Grayson. Experienced goalkeeper Lucas is also being released, with Grayson offering his gratitude to the departing duo. "I've said all along that I would evaluate the squad at the end of the season and this is part of that process," Grayson told the club's official website.

Excellent professionals

"I am looking to strengthen what we have here and while players will be coming in, departures are also inevitable as we look to prepare in the best manner possible for next season. "I've spoken with the players, and I have to say that they have both been excellent professionals since I arrived in December. "Up until last Thursday we didn't know what our league status would be for next season, and I felt it was important that decisions were made as quickly as possible after that to allow us to move forward as a club and to give the players the best possible opportunity. "I'd like to thank them for their efforts, and everyone at the club wishes them the best of luck for the future." Meanwhile, the Legaue One club have opened preliminary discussions with defender Richardson over a new deal at Elland Road.
