Saddlers land ex-Magpie on short-term deal

Walsall have completed the signing of midfielder Martin Brittain on a short-term contract. The 23-year-old began his career with Newcastle before going on to play for Ipswich, Yeovil and Carlisle. Brittain made just two appearances for The Cumbrians this term and will now be hoping to resurrect his career with Walsall. Saddlers boss Richard Money is pleased with Brittain's addition and hopes the midfielder can fulfil his potential with the League One outfit. "Martin fits our profile perfectly. He is young, has a good pedigree and has had a good upbringing at Newcastle and Ipswich," he told the club's official website. "He is our type of footballer and I am sure that somewhere he will really kick-start his career. We hope that we can give him the right environment to do that here."
