Swansea boss lands League One prize

Swansea manager Roberto Martinez has been named the League One Manager of the Month for October. The Swans won all four league games last month and also progressed to the area quarter-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Victories over Swindon, Leyton Orient, Bournemouth and Yeovil propelled Swansea into second place in League One. Swansea scored 13 goals in their four October league games, with three of the wins coming away from The Liberty Stadium.

Goals galore

"They were difficult games," Martinez told Sky Sports News. "We started the season creating many, many chances, and probably in the latest results the difference has been being clinical in front of goal and taking those chances. "As you know, goals change games at any level and in this period we've been sharp."
Hard work
He added: "It's down to daily work and the talent of the players. "We had many, many new faces in pre-season and we had to work really hard and now we're starting to gel together and we got a few good results." Leeds manager Dennis Wise, who won the August and September awards, missed out on a third straight first-place finish. New Carlisle chief John Ward and Brighton boss Dean Wilkins were also on the shortlist.
