LEEDS UNITED are locked in a battle with a host of French clubs to sign Marseille striker Cyril Chapuis.

Elland Road chief Peter Reid admitted on Friday that he was looking to bolster his strike-force and now it appears that Chapuis is the man he wants.

Marseille have just signed Steve Marlet and are more than happy to see Chapuis depart the Stade Velodrome

The likes of Lyon, Lens and Bastia all want the talented forward, but Leeds have also registered their interest in taking him.

Leeds have already made numerous raids on the French transfer market this summer, having already landed Zoumana Camara, Lamine Sakho and Didier Domi on loan.

The Whites are now waiting to hear back from l'OM to see whether their offer has been accepted, and then whether Chapuis wants to join the burgeoning French contingent in West Yorkshire.

Premiership sides Everton, Southampton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were also linked with Chapuis earlier in the summer.
