Hull manager Steve Bruce is adamant that UEFA's Financial Fair Play investigation into the club was unavoidable.

Reports suggest Hull could be fined around £145,000 by UEFA today.

But Bruce believes that UEFA's scrutiny of Hull was an inevitable consequence of the club's promotion to the Premier League and subsequent qualification for the Europa League.

"Of course it's a concern but we understand that the only reason we're being investigated is because of when we were in the Championship. It's tough on us," said Bruce.

"Most clubs, when they're in the Championship, would come under scrutiny - and because we qualified for a UEFA tournament - we've come under investigation."

"And most clubs in the Championship would struggle to meet the financial fair play system. They're all trying their best now, but it's very difficult.

"It's intriguing that Jose Mourinho said that he has to sell before he brings somebody in.

"Certainly the way the club is from then on, we're in a very healthy position."
