Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor is out for a month with a shoulder injury and has been ruled out of Scotland's forthcoming European Qualifiers.

The 32-year-old has been managing the injury since the start of the season but has now been prescribed a period of complete rest and will sit out for both club and country until November.

That means he will not link up with his country for the games against Georgia and Poland, while giving veteran Steve Harper a Premier League return this weekend against Crystal Palace.

"The specialist has said he needs to rest and stop diving on it," said Hull boss Steve Bruce on Thursday morning.

"If you've got a sore shoulder and he's diving on it every day we need to take him out and make sure he recovers.

"Hopefully in four to six weeks he'll be back to normal. We're just delighted he doesn't need an operation. We first thought it might need one."

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has Cardiff's David Marshall and Celtic's Craig Gordon left in his squad but has yet to name a replacement back-up.
