Premier League: Steve Bruce happy at Hull City and never considered leaving

Steve Bruce does not know where reports linking him to Southampton earlier in the summer came from and has reiterated that he is happy at Hull City.

Following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from St Mary’s to take charge at Tottenham Hotspur, there was briefly speculation that Bruce was on a shortlist to replace him.

Hull denied the rumours and Ronald Koeman was quickly appointed by Saints, while Bruce was left bewildered by the whole saga.

He maintains that he is committed to Hull and has paid tribute to the cub’s owners for putting their faith in him and backing him in the transfer market.

Speaking about the Southampton story, Bruce told the Hull Daily Mail:  “I don’t know where that came from.

“I haven’t got an agent but all agents seem to claim to represent me. That means a lot of rubbish comes out.

“There was never any intention for me to move on. I’ve said it from day one that I’m perfectly happy here.

“I’m one of the fortunate ones. The people who employ me let me manage and that is vitally important for me.”

Bruce, who now operates on a one-year rolling contract with Hull, added: “I’ve said it several times how grateful I am to the owners here.

“They trust me to do my job and that’s not something you can take for granted in football.

“They’ve given me nothing but support during my time here and backed me financially whenever I’ve asked. This summer has been no different. I’ve asked for players and they’ve delivered.”
