Sky Sports understands Hull City are lining up a move for former Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies to replace Nick Barmby.
Barmby's future at the KC Stadium is shrouded in doubt following reports he had been suspended by the club.
Widespread reports have suggested Barmby was suspended by the club's owner for comments he made in the media about the Tigers' finances.
Barmby's suspension is still to be confirmed, but it appears the former England international will not continue as manager.
Hull have already drawn up a list of replacements for Barmby with Davies topping the wanted list.
The highly-rated manager has been out of work since leaving Nottingham Forest last summer and he is thought to be keen to get back into the game.
Davies led Derby to promotion to the Premier League during his time in charge of the club and reached the play-offs two seasons in a row at Forest before his departure from the City Ground.
It is now thought Hull see Davies as the perfect man to launch their own promotion bid next season.
