Poyet would be happy to extend goalkeeper's loan

Steve Harper's loan at Brighton could be extended if he is happy to stay at the Championship club. The Newcastle goalkeeper is due to return to St James' Park next week, but Gus Poyet is open to the prospect of keeping the 36-year-old. Brighton's manager is going to discuss the subject with Harper, who arrived at the Amex in October, to see if he feels the same. Poyet said: "The idea from the beginning was to do it up to January, but for some reason or another it was for a month.

Relax

"We're happy with his performances, but we need to make sure he's happy to live here. We need it to be good for everyone and not force it either way." Casper Ankergren was pushed out of Poyet's first-team plans as a result of Harper's arrival, however, the Dane maintains his manager's backing. Poyet said regarding the initial signing of Harper: "Casper reacted in a very good way. "The first few days he was relaxed and he's been challenging Steve for the position. "If Steve decides to go back, it doesn't mean I'll bring another goalkeeper in."
