Abbott weighs up prospects of signing Morris and Bridges

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott is open to the possibility of signing Ian Morris and Michael Bridges permanently. Morris spent a month on loan at Carlisle towards the end of the season before returning to Scunthorpe United to play a role in the club's promotion to the Championship. Bridges enjoyed the season on loan at Brunton Park from Hull City and the striker is not expected to be retained by the Premier League club. Cumbrians chief Abbott is keen to sign the duo, but admits he is waiting for their parent clubs to make decisions before pursuing his interest.

Wait and see

"He's a player that ticks a lot of boxes, and he's a player that did well when he came to us, but he has a fantastic chance of staying with a Championship club at the moment," said Abbott of Morris on the club's official website. "We don't know what his personal situation is right now, so, out of respect for Nigel Adkins and for the player, we have to wait and see what they do next. "He might not even be available, but even if he is we then have to ask ourselves if we will be able to do anything with him. There could be other clubs interested, so there are many things that could come into play when you are talking about trying to get a player like Ian Morris." Abbott added: "It's the same situation with Michael Bridges. He is contracted with Hull City until the end of June and we have to wait for them to confirm their released list before we can even approach him, so it's another case of wait and see. "We do know that there is possible interest from other clubs, but the situation has to be confirmed before we can even think about taking it any further."
