Hull had taken the lead through Junior Lewis with 16 minutes remaining, but Myhill put through his own net in the 82nd minute to give the hosts a share of the points.
Derek Niven was sent off for Chesterfield, after picking up two yellow cards.
The result means that Hull stay in second behind Luton Town, whilst Chesterfield remain planted firmly in mid-table.
Elsewhere, in a game that ebbed and flowed, Bournemouth came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw against Stockport County.
The Cherries had opened the scoring through John Spicer, only for goals by Chris Armstrong and Joe Dolan to give the hosts the lead going into the closing stages.
However, Garreth O'Connor scored with seven minutes remaining to give the visitors a share of the spoils.
