The Tigers chief is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of a season in Division Two next year as the club look to push for a second consecutive promotion.
Taylor is already believed to have drawn up a shortlist of possible signings and the Shrimpers pair are two players who appear to be summer targets.
Defender Cort (pictured) and midfielder Maher are both out of contract in the summer and could be set to move to The KC Stadium during the off-season.
"Leon is a player I'm interested in," stated Taylor to the Hull Mail. "I've indicated that defence is one of the areas we need to strengthen and he's one of the players I'm looking at.
"No discussions have taken place yet. He's about to be out of contract at his club and we'll just have to wait and see what happens."
On a move for Maher he added: "He's a good player at a good age and he's a good passer.
"He's always impressed me when he's played against us. I've shown an interest with his agent but no more than that."
Meanwhile, Southend manager Steve Tilson believes Mark Warren is unlikely to sign a deal to remain at Roots Hall.
The defender has reportedly been offered a new one-year deal but The Shrimpers chief is not confident he will be a Southend player next term.
"Mark told me roughly when I offered him his contract that he might not sign," explained Tilson to the club's website. "I've got to get back to him and see if we can get anything sorted out.
"In all honesty it looks like he won't be signing."
