Mixed emotions for Dickov

Image: Paul Dickov: Point better than nothing

Doncaster boss Paul Dickov admits he gave his side a stern talking to after their 1-1 draw at Barnsley.

Ross Turnbull, who used to play for Rovers, produced a string of superb saves to ensure that it ended all square in the South Yorkshire derby at Oakwell after Theo Robinson's 52nd-minute strike had cancelled out the hosts' lead given to them by Lewin Nyatanga in just the fifth minute. The majority of those stops by the former Chelsea keeper, the best of which coming from a low Robinson effort and Kyle Bennett's curler, came in the first half and the Rovers boss was unhappy that his side did not kick on after their equaliser. "A point is better than nothing," he said. "I've had a go at them after the game. I felt after the opening 15 minutes in the second half when we got on top we were sloppy. "I congratulated them on coming back yet again but I gave them a rocket for being sloppy in a game I felt we should have won. We are a very good team when we get the basics right and play two-touch football, we drag ourselves down when we try and complicate things. "It's another point away from home, it's a point gained coming from behind but we feel as if it should be three points, I thought we did enough to win the game. "But Sod's Law that Ross makes three or four unbelievable saves to keep them in it. But the performance levels for the majority of the game were very good. "We started the game poorly, concentration levels were poor and it was too easy for Barnsley. After that some of the football we played was fantastic. Big Ross has kept them in it." Barnsley boss Danny Wilson conceded his side were not at their best but was happy to take a point. "We think we can do better than we did in certain points of the game," Wilson said. "We look a bit anxious at times and they try and force things and that doesn't work. "We got off to a good start but Doncaster played some good football against us. Overall was it a fair result? Maybe, maybe not. "We did well in certain points of the game but not all of it. When they got the goal you think they're in the ascendency but we weathered most of the storm. Defensively we were okay, it was just when we went forward. "The boys want to do so well for their team-mates and club sometimes they are over compensating and it's the little indecisions that is costing us at times. "It's not easy in a game that was as frenetic as it was. It was end-to-end but if we showed a bit of calmness in key areas we could have got more from the game. We had to batten down the hatches for parts of the game and we did that. "We have thankfully come away with a point on another day we might have got nothing had Ross not made those saves."
