Transfer news: League One side Barnsley sign forward Mike Phenix from AFC Telford

Barnsley have added to their attacking options with the signing of Mike Phenix from AFC Telford.

Phenix arrives at Oakwell having scored six goals in 14 appearances in the Conference Premier this season after being converted from a midfielder to a striker.

Barnsley have handed the 25-year-old a contract running until June 2016, with the undisclosed fee reportedly around £25,000.

AFC Telford, who are rock bottom of the table, have taken 19-year-old Tykes striker Rhys Oates on a month-long loan as part of the deal.

Phenix told Barnsley's official website: "I'm chuffed to be bits. It's a bit overwhelming to be honest.

"It came about last night. My manager told me about the interest and it was a no-brainer.

"It all happened overnight and was a bit mad! I just thought I'd go for it and hopefully I can bring some success.

"I was used to training on Tuesday and Thursday nights. I'm looking forward to training every day and getting as fit as I can."
