Brown extends Carlisle stay

Carlisle have extended Reece Brown's loan stay from Watford until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old defender, younger brother of Sunderland's Wes, made five starts and two substitute appearances during his initial month-long stay at Brunton Park and will now be available for the Blues' remaining five matches as they fight for survival towards the bottom of League One. "Reece has been great to have around and he has really knuckled down and worked hard," Carlisle manager Graham Kavanagh told the club's official website. "He wants to be involved and he shows by the way he approaches everything he does that he wants to be part of what we are trying to achieve, in terms of getting the points and performances we need. "He gives us options and we know he's a player who will add to the group. We're delighted that he has stayed with us." Brown came through the youth system at Manchester United but did not make a first-team appearance for the club. During his time at Old Trafford he had loan spells with Ipswich, Coventry, Oldham, Doncaster and Bradford. He joined Watford last summer on a two-year deal but has been limited to just two Capital One Cup starts and one substitute outing in the Championship for the Hornets. Carlisle lost 6-1 to Preston on Saturday, a result that saw Kavanagh's men drop back into the relegation places, but Brown did help the Cumbrians keep four clean sheets in five matches prior to that heavy defeat at Deepdale.
