Barnsley have appointed Chris Hutchings as assistant manager to Danny Wilson.
The former Wigan manager's previous role in the Championship was as assistant manager and then caretaker manager for Ipswich in 2012.
And he joins Barnsley as they battle against relegation from the Championship.
Wilson's team are bottom of the league but they have a game in hand over many of their rivals and are just three points away from safety.
Wilson welcomed Hutchings' arrival and hopes his experience will aid the club in their fight for Championship survival.
"Chris has been a friend and confidant over many years since playing together," Wilson said. "Chris has done very well with clubs at all levels that he has worked at.
"His experience will be invaluable as we go into the final ten games of the season and I am delighted that he has come to help us out."
Hutchings has previously worked as assistant manager at Bradford, Wigan, Derby and Ipswich as well as a stint as Walsall manager.
