Winston Reid: Saw West Ham past arch-rivals Millwall at Upton Park

Sky Bet

West Ham tasted derby joy on Saturday to remain top of the Championship pile and Leeds began life after Simon Grayson with a win.

Elsewhere, Cardiff missed the chance to move into the automatic promotion places, while Southampton drew at Birmingham City, Coventry were denied the opportunity to clamber off the foot of the table and Middlesbrough were held on home soil.

Winston Reid was the unlikely hero for West Ham as they recovered from seeing Kevin Nolan sent off early on to edge out bitter rivals Millwall 2-1 at Upton Park and pull five points clear at the summit.

Southampton remain in second position following a 0-0 draw at Birmingham in a game which saw the visitors' Dan Fox sent off late on for a second bookable offence.

Cardiff sat inside the top two with 11 minutes of their game with Blackpool remaining, but the Bluebirds saw the Seasiders turn the tie on its head to leave South Wales with a 3-1 win and a fourth-place standing.

Middlesbrough remain inside the play-off spots, but a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at the Riverside Stadium has seen them fall further adrift of the leaders.

Leeds are back to within a point of the top six following a 3-0 victory over Bristol City, with the Robins' ill-discipline offering the managerless Whites a helping hand as they ended the game with nine men.

Dramatic

Burnley left it late to pick up a point against Peterborough, with Jay Rodriguez snatching a dramatic equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Will Buckley hit a stoppage-time winner for Brighton as they saw off Leicester 1-0 in a game which saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

Watford edged further clear of the drop zone courtesy of a John Eustace brace against Barnsley.

Coventry moved off the bottom after edging in front against Ipswich, but a late double from Michael Chopra saw Town secure a 3-2 victory and leave the Sky Blues languishing at the foot of the division.

All of those in action on Saturday were forced to make the best of freezing conditions, but Doncaster's home date with Reading and Hull City's trip to Portsmouth fell foul of the weather and they will have to try again at a later date.
