Sky Sports understands Barnsley are lining up a loan move for Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge.
Tonge is well down the pecking order at Stoke and the former Sheffield United man is thought to be available on loan.
Tonge arrived at the club in 2008 from Sheffield United for £2million, but his opportunities with City have been restricted to just 12 matches.
A number of clubs are thought to have expressed an interest in Tonge, but it appears Barnsley are close to securing his signature.
Barnsley boss Keith Hill is in the market for midfield reinforcements after losing Danny Drinkwater to Leicester last week and he is hoping to bring Tonge to Oakwell on loan until the end of the season.
