Southend winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce looks to be heading for the exit at Roots Hall after being left out of Saturday's win over Millwall.
The Jamaica international wants a return to the Championship, with Barnsley expressing an interest in signing him.
Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson has admitted Barnsley are chasing the winger before the transfer window closes on Friday.
"We both decided it would be best to leave him out against Millwall. It's no secret that Barnsley are keen to sign him. We'll have to wait and see what happens," said Tilson.
Southend are keen to bolster their attacking options and have been linked with a move for unsettled Millwall forward Darren Byfield.
Tilson admits he is searching for a new striker, but played down a move for Byfield.
"I'm after a front man but everyone is after the same sort of player and it isn't easy," added Tilson.
"Darren Byfield is available but his wages are very, very expensive and only a few clubs in our division can afford that."
