Barnsley have failed with a bid for Bury's Dwayne Mattis.

The former Huddersfield midfielder has been one of the Shakers' top performers in recent seasons having moved to Gigg Lane in 2004.

Mattis is out of contract at the end of the season and the club are hoping to agree new terms with him and with that in mind they have shunned the £25,000 offer from the Championship club.

It remains to be seen whether Barnsley will up their offer.

The Tykes are very busy in the transfer market having already finalised the £100,000 capture of Grant McCann from Cheltenham.

The Northern Irish international has been on loan at the club but he has now finalised his move to Oakwell.

Barnsley are also still waiting to hear from Rotherham about their bid for Lee Williamson, while Leon Knight has returned to Swansea City after his loan spell.
