Barnsley have handed a trial to Finnish striker Ville Lehtinen.
The Tykes are making plans ahead of the January transfer window and they have been alerted to the talents of Lehtinen.
The 27-year-old has been pencilled in to turn out for Barnsley's reserves against Port Vale's second string on Monday.
Lehtinen is under contract to Finnish champions Tampere United, but their season ended in October and he is looking for a second crack at life in England having had a spell with Sheffield United in the late 1990s.
Barnsley, meanwhile, have decided to extend the loan spells of Simon Heslop, Ryan Laight, Rob Atkinson and Nathan Joynes.
Heslop and Laight are currently turning out for Tamworth and the former will stay with the club for another month, while Laight has been given the green light to remain with The Lambs until the end of the season.
Atkinson and Joynes are gaining experience at Halifax and will remain with the club for another month.
