Barnsley should have Colin Healy available for Saturday's trip to Colchester as he is due to sign a one-year deal this week.
The Republic of Ireland international underwent a successful trial at Oakwell during the summer and has been offered the chance to join the Championship outfit after leaving Livingston.
Tykes boss Andy Ritchie says that Healy has passed his medical and only now has to put pen-to-paper on his one-year deal with the South Yorkshire side.
Healy could have been signed before Tuesday's win at Hull but the deal could not be rushed through on time.
"Colin came through his medical but it was too late to get the documents signed and registered in time for the Hull City game," Ritchie told the club website.
"Everybody has a day off on Wednesday so Colin will come in on Thursday to sign the relevant bits of paper. He will be in contention for a place in the squad for the trip to Colchester.
"I am happy that things are almost done now and Colin will be a quality addition to our squad. I am sure he will be a great asset to this football club."
