York City have signed Neil Bishop from their bitter Yorkshire rivals Scarborough.

Scarborough were said to be reluctant to let the 24-year-old move to their near neighbours, but the clubs have agreed an undisclosed fee for the midfielder, believed to be in the region of £5,000.

Bishop made 33 league appearances for The Seadogs since signing from Whitby Town in March last year after impressing on trial.

Scarborough have moved quickly to replace the midfielder though, with manager Neil Redfearn snapping up Barnsley midfielder Richard Kell on loan and the player is expected to go straight into the starting line-up for Saturday's game against Altrincham.

Meanwhile, York have released New Zealand international Leo Bertos and he is expected to sign of Scarborough if he impresses in a reserve game.

York are currently on a poor run of form which has seen them slip out of contention for the Conference play-offs, whereas Scarborough have struggled all season and currently sit five points above the relegation zone.
