Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie has vowed to recall Paul Hayes to the starting line-up to face Walsall in the FA Cup.

The Tykes manager decided to drop the striker in favour of Chris Shuker and Tommy Wright for the 3-2 defeat to Port Vale on Saturday.

However Hayes has been in sterling form in the FA Cup this season with five goals in four games, and Ritchie says he will start in the third round replay at The Bescot Stadium on Tuesday night.

"I just wanted to have a look at new partnerships up front," Ritchie told Sky Sports News. "I told him that and he'll be involved tomorrow night."

The Barnsley boss also voiced his frustration at the manner of his side's League One defeat at the weekend, although praised his players for a much improved second half display at Vale Park.

"We gifted them two goals and you can't do that," Ritchie added.

"We got ourselves back into the game at 2-2 then the goal they won it with - no amount of training pitch scenarios could get you ready for that one.

"We didn't play particularly well first half, but the lads were tremendous in the second half and we didn't deserve to get beat."

Ritchie is looking to write his own chapter of FA Cup history this season as a manager, and says his players have no time for his tales of cups past as they focus on glory of their own.

"I don't think they want to know really, they're bored of all comments we get but the FA Cup to them is a big competition, they love to watch the ties.

"They do talk about it but I think when we try and talk about ours they give us a little bit of stick about it."
