Cobblers seal triple swoop

League Two promotion hopefuls Northampton Town have completed the signing of three new players, with a fourth expected to be confirmed by the end of the week.

Former Scotland Under-21 international David Rowson has inked a deal on a free transfer from Patrick Thistle, having turned down the opportunity to remain in his homeland.

Tommy Jaszczun arrives at Sixfields from Blackpool and striker Eric Sabin completes a trio of signings for Colin Calderwood's (pictured) ambitious outfit.

Sabin netted six goals in just 11 starts for The Cobblers last season, having arrived on a short term deal and turned down offers from several other clubs to pen a two-year deal.

Meanwhile, highly rated Cambridge United left back Fred Murray is expected to sign for Northampton this week.

The sought-after defender turned down a deal to stay at The Abbey Stadium last week and United chairman Gary Harwood has confirmed that they will be seeking compensation for the player's departure.

''We'd gone as far as we were prepared to go,'' Harwood told the Cambridge News. ''It was a very good offer and would have made Fred one of our highest earners.

''He has decided his future lays elsewhere and I've a strong feeling it might be Northampton.

''The initial offer from them we've rejected and told them it is nowhere near good enough, so we're waiting for them to get back to us.

''But if we can't agree a fee it will go to tribunal.''

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Paul Reid and Martin Smith have been attracting interest from Barnsley.
