Sean St Ledger: Wants to keep his place in the Leicester team after thinking he was going to Ipswich

Sean St Ledger is determined to retain his place in the Leicester City starting line-up after admitting he thought he was set to join Ipswich Town.

Leicester accepted an offer from Ipswich earlier this month and St Ledger weighed up a move to Portman Road after also attracting interest from other clubs.

However, he has since been taken off the transfer list by Foxes boss Nigel Pearson and has started the club's last three matches.

He is happy to be back in Leicester's plans and now wants to ensure he is playing regularly in order to secure a spot in the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2012.

Jeopardy

"There was a point when I thought I was going out on loan to Ipswich and then the next moment I am playing in the FA Cup versus Forest," St Ledger told the Leicester Mercury.

"It has been an up-and-down time and I probably haven't known what was going on, but I am fully enjoying being back in the side, winning games and keeping clean sheets.

"I am enjoying playing and that is all I have wanted to do since I joined the club.

"It is obvious I need to be playing. You look at everyone else who might be in the Ireland squad and they are playing week-in and week-out. To play in a championship like that is a massive thing for anyone in their career.

"I don't want to put that in jeopardy so I need to play week-in and week-out. The manager knows. We have spoken and he knows how I feel. We have said we will take it week by week and take it from there.

"I think it has always been a fresh start because the transfer list hasn't changed anything, it is just my name on a computer or a list."
