Leicester City have announced Gelson Fernandes has asked for his loan contract at the King Power Stadium to be terminated.

Leicester to 'make every effort' to agree to midfielder's request

Leicester City have announced Gelson Fernandes has asked for his loan contract at the King Power Stadium to be terminated. The Saint Etienne midfielder joined the Championship promotion hopefuls at the beginning of the season when he was signed for the duration of the campaign by former Manchester City colleague Sven Goran Eriksson. But Eriksson was sacked at the end of October and Fernandes has not played under Nigel Pearson since the beginning of December. And Leicester have confirmed in a statement the Switzerland international has asked to leave and the Foxes will 'make every effort' to agree to his wish. The statement read: "Leicester City can confirm that Gelson Fernandes has expressed a desire to terminate his season-long loan from French club Saint Etienne. "As the agreement was due to run until the end of the season, the club will make every effort to facilitate this request subject to mutual cancellation terms being agreed with both parties."
