Hamer playing through the pain

Exeter loanee Ben Hamer has vowed to play through the pain barrier to start in goal against Huddersfield this weekend.

The 23-year-old suffered a groin strain against Swindon last Saturday and had to rely on pain killers to get him through the midweek defeat to Southampton. Despite the injury, Hamer believes the injury is clearing up and he will be fit enough to face the Terriers. "I tweaked something and picked up a groin strain in the last five minutes against Swindon and, even though it's clearing up, I had to take a few pain killers to get me through the Southampton game," he told the Express and Echo. "It didn't affect my performance though and it certainly didn't have anything to do with the goals - they were just down to intelligent play and good finishing from Rickie Lambert. "I had to adjust my goal kicks and drop them a bit short to put less pressure on my groin, which wasn't ideal. But I'm hoping it will be back to normal again by the weekend because I've been happy with how I'm playing but you don't really want to be playing with an injury."
