Inter boss enjoys Twente win

Under-pressure Inter Milan manager Rafa Benitez hailed the character of his side following their win over FC Twente. The Nerazzurri secured a 1-0 triumph at the Giuseppe Meazza over their Dutch opponents thanks to Esteban Cambiasso's 55th minute strike. It means Inter are assured of a place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, and Benitez was pleased with the victory. "It's always important to win, especially in the Champions League," he said. "If the coach is in difficulty it's because the team is in difficulty but we wanted to win, we scored and in the end it was this character that made the difference.

Concentrate

"I think that the team was playing very well, but then because we had a few injuries we lost a few matches that we should have won. "But because of the way we were playing it was clear that the squad still believed in itself. "It is clear we had to concentrate tonight. We did everything we could to score a second, a third and a fourth and I am happy with what we did." He added: "I am delighted for the team. We won with our heads and our hearts and this is how we qualified. "Today we showed all our determination and character. We had a lot of shots and deserved the win. The team did really well, especially the young players."
Sack rumours
Rumours had circulated before the clash that club president Massimo Moratti was set to sack Benitez if Inter had lost against Twente. However, Cambiasso's goal ensured that such speculation became irrelevant, and the Argentine midfielder hopes the win can be a springboard for his team. "In the changing room we never had any doubts we'd bounce back," he remarked. "We knew we were in a difficult moment but we hope this result can give us tranquillity and once we're back to full strength, things can go much better."
