Cheltenham bring in striker

Cheltenham Town have signed striker Elvis Hammond on a free transfer. The 28-year-old was available for nothing after he left Leicester in the summer. Hammond has not played a first-team game since April 2007 due to an ankle injury - but he is now looking to kick-start his career at Whaddon Road. Hammond impressed manager Martin Allen in a reserve team match and has now been handed a short-term deal. "I didn't get to spend too much time with Martin (Allen) at Leicester because soon after he arrived I got injured," Hammond told the club's official website. "I had a hairline fracture of my ankle and it didn't get diagnosed properly so I was back and forth all the time. "Then my contract was up at Leicester so I had to get private physio and the person who helped me, Andy Watson, was very good. Now I've got the chance to come here and get back on track, so hopefully I can seize the opportunity." Meanwhile, Craig Armstrong, Scott Brown, Ben Gill and Aaron Ledgister are all in the process of discussing financial settlements with the club regarding their current contracts. However, Lee Ridley has been taken off the transfer list by boss Allen.
