QPR defender Rio Ferdinand has given his backing to Harry Redknapp as pressure mounts on the R's manager after a disappointing start to the season.

Rangers are bottom of the Premier League after just one win in seven games and speculation is mounting that chairman Tony Fernandes is looking to make a change at Loftus Road.

But centre-half Ferdinand, who was given his first chance under Redknapp at West Ham, believes the 67-year-old needs to be given time to steer the club out of trouble.

"We are not even in double figures for the amount of games played yet," said Ferdinand.

"To push the panic button now would be crazy in my eyes. Harry still comes across to me as a fighter and a man with a lot of fight left in him.

"He wants to get the club out of this situation we're in. It's not for the lack of trying.

"No one wants to see their manager get sacked. It was not nice to see it happen to David Moyes at Manchester United last season and I wouldn't want to see it here.

"It's down to us as players, as well as the coaching staff, to start turning results around."

Former England international Ferdinand has played in all seven league games this season since his summer move from Old Trafford and recognises he has struggled to adjust to life fighting at the foot of the table.

He added: "I'd like to think I can play more good games than bad. If anyone thinks I'm here not to muck in and fight with the rest of the lads - it couldn't be further from the truth.

"Yes, it's been difficult. I've had to readjust. The way of thinking and of playing is different to what I was used to at United.

"I'm 35 but still feel like I have a lot to offer - that's why I made the move. I'm very pleased that QPR gave me a chance and more than likely, this is where I will end my career."
