Matt Gilks - Blackpool
Scotland goalkeeper Gilks keeps his place in our Team of the Week after helping ensure Blackpool remain top of the Championship table going into the international break. He followed up his clean sheet against Reading last time out with another shutout in the 1-0 win over Watford at Bloomfield Road. The 31-year-old superbly denied Troy Deeney from the penalty spot having saved a 25-yarder from the same player early on, and he also denied Gabriele Angella and Davide Faraoni.
Leon Johnson - Wycombe
Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth praised Johnson for putting his body on the line in the 2-1 home win over Southend in League Two, and described his pairing with Gary Doherty as "brilliant". The Chairboys had to withstand a second-half onslaught from the Shrimpers at Adams Park in order to claim all three points, with Grenada defender Johnson's block from Craig Reid's volley particularly crucial.
Nedum Onuoha - QPR
QPR's accomplished defensive showing at Elland Road on Saturday kept the Leeds United chances to a minimum, and Clint Hill took most of the plaudits as his late goal sealed a 1-0 Championship win. However, with eight clearances in the match as part of an athletic all-action performance that also included several key tackles and blocked shots, it's Onuoha who earns a spot in our weekly Football League XI. The 26-year-old is typifying the fighting spirit Rangers appear to have rediscovered - and it may take them back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Kyle McFadzean - Crawley
Prolific Peterborough had begun the League One season by hitting 12 goals in four games but they came up against a brick wall in the shape of Crawley at London Road on Saturday. In particular, centre-back McFadzean stood out, keeping Tyrone Barnett and Britt Assombalonga quiet, and boss Richie Barker believes the 26-year-old is back to his best after missing six months last season due to a viral infection. McFadzean's class is well known in the Football League, and Crawley had to reject several bids for him before Monday's transfer deadline.
Rhys Bennett - Rochdale
Bennett popped up from the back with a pinpoint assist for Matty Lund's goal as Rochdale took the game to Oxford at the Kassam Stadium in League Two. The 22-year-old defender was part of a Dale display that boss Keith Hill described as "magnificent" and with the hosts boasting serious firepower (15 goals in five games before Saturday), Bennett had to be alert for the full 90 minutes to ensure his side came away with a point.
Ryan Mason - Swindon
Netting a hat-trick from midfield is always going to get you in the Team of the Week, and Mason - on a season-long loan with Swindon from Tottenham - enjoyed an outstanding second half against Crewe. It wasn't quite a perfect afternoon, however. Sandwiched between two adept finishes inside the area was a well-struck penalty kick, but the 22-year-old could not repeat the act from the spot in stoppage time as Alan Martin denied him a fourth goal.
James McCarthy - Wigan
How Wigan will miss their midfield screen. McCarthy left the DW Stadium for Everton on Transfer Deadline Day, earning Latics £13million in the process, and his effectiveness in the centre was all apparent in his final appearance on Saturday as Nottingham Forest were beaten 2-1. Anticipating Forest forays and instigating counter-attacks, the young Republic of Ireland international is likely to blossom at Goodison, but Owen Coyle will struggle to replace him.
Sammy Moore - AFC Wimbledon
"Phenomenal" was Neil Ardley's description of Moore's midfield outing in AFC Wimbledon's 2-0 home win over much-fancied Fleetwood at the weekend. Very much a fans' favourite at Kingsmeadow, the 25-year-old had to put in a hard-working shift to frustrate the visitors, who arrived in south-west London having already won twice on the road in League Two this season. The Dons are up to fourth in the table and will need Moore's combative spirit if they are to challenge for promotion.
Dean Cox - Leyton Orient
Cox earns his spot having provided two assists from the left for the goals scored by Tommy Mooney and Kevin Lisbie in the 2-1 League One win at Colchester on Saturday. Five wins from five represents Orient's best-ever start to a season and winger Cox has been one of their star men. Russell Slade will have been delighted to have hung on to the 26-year-old, who was a transfer target for several bigger clubs during the summer window.
Yann Kermorgant - Charlton
Once, twice, and now three times - put Kermorgant out on the pitch against his former club Leicester, and the 'law of the ex' will rule. Another goal to silence the jeering Foxes fans, this one a header just before the hour mark at The Valley on Saturday, saw the Frenchman earn Charlton their first home win of the season. He proved a handful for Leicester all afternoon, and Chris Powell believes his strike partnership with Simon Church is now clicking for the Addicks.
Jordan Rhodes - Blackburn
Relief for Rovers, as they enter the post-window period with striker Rhodes still in situ at Ewood Park. Dave Whelan's Wigan were the club making serious eyes at the Scotland international, whose work-rate was as impressive as his two finishes in the 4-1 Championship home win over Bolton on Saturday. Still only 23, Rhodes has hit at least 20 goals in each of the past four seasons - making him pretty much priceless to Blackburn's hopes of promotion back to the Premier League.
