Spanish midfielder swayed by Rangers' ambition

Esteban Granero says it was an easy choice swapping Real Madrid for QPR after buying into Mark Hughes' project at Loftus Road. Granero left the Bernabeu last month after signing a four-year contract with Rangers, who paid a reported £9million for a player widely tipped to emerge as the one of the best buys of the transfer widow. The 25-year-old midfielder was a product of Real's youth system but played only sporadically for the first team, convincing him it was time to leave.

Hungry

"It wasn't a hard decision to come here. I'm hungry and here I will be able to grow as a player," said the Spaniard. "Real Madrid is a great club, I have played there since I was eight. I spent three years in the first team and I will always be thankful to them. "But it was time to change and the best way to do that was join QPR. "Since two weeks ago my thoughts are here and I don't miss anything about Real. "I wanted to be a part of QPR. I'm sure the project here will be good for me, and I'll be good for QPR. "Everyone at the club trusts me and that's all I needed. I know I've made the right decision." Big-spending Rangers have secured a solitary point from their three Premier League outings so far this season, but Granero believes they will soon start climbing the table. "There are a lot of new players here so we must get to know each other first," he said. "We must improve, but this team will do that when it spends more time together. "One point from the first three games is not unexpected, but this is not the way it will remain. "This season will be great - I can see that in my team-mates' faces. There are quality players here, so just give us time."
Confidence
QPR host Chelsea on Saturday and Granero understands the significance of the fixture. "Of course it's important to beat Chelsea because it will be our first win and give us a lot of confidence," he said. "It's great for our supporters because we'll be playing our neighbours in our stadium, so it's about more than just three points. "We must train well this week and we will see what happens at the weekend, but we are very focused on the game."
