QPR striker takes plenty of positives from Norwich stalemate

Djibril Cisse believes Queens Park Rangers are heading in the right direction after collecting their first point of the new season at Norwich. Mark Hughes' side endured a forgettable opening to the 2012/13 campaign as they were hammered 5-0 on home soil by Swansea. That result made a mockery of the summer rebuilding programme undertaken at Loftus Road, with QPR having worked hard to shape what they believe is a competitive squad. A 1-1 draw at Carrow Road on Saturday suggests they are back on track, with Cisse confident the capital outfit can kick on after opening their account. He told Sky Sports: "I think we played more attractive football. We tried more, ran more and created more chances than last week. We scored and it's a good point away from home. "We knew that it wasn't a good game from us last weekend, so we had to change things and improve, and quick. We needed some points and a draw today is not a bad thing." Asked how difficult it has been bedding so many new faces into the squad, Cisse added: "It's not that difficult. We are quality players with a lot of experience so we have to adapt quickly. That's what we are trying to do. "We lost last week, it's a draw today, so that's an improvement. We are trying to build a team as fast as possible because we don't want to lose too many points. We are on our way."

Reaction

Cisse played his part in securing a point at Norwich, having won a first-half penalty. He missed the resulting spot-kick, but believes a contentious decision from Mark Clattenburg was the right one and that Bobby Zamora made his own luck by reacting quickly to tuck away the rebound - despite replays showing that he had encroached into the area before Cisse made contact with the ball. The French striker said: "To be honest, there was contact. After that the referee has to decide. From my point of view it was the right decision. "Luckily enough Bobby reacted quite quickly and scored. If not, I would have been quite upset with myself. "You try to react before your opponent, that's what Bobby did and he scored. It's a good thing for us. But I had to score my penalty."
