West Ham United winger Hogan Ephraim has turned down a return to Colchester United on loan.
Prior to Thursday's loan deadline, U's boss Geraint Williams revealed he had made an offer to re-sign the youngster.
Ephraim enjoyed a loan spell at Layer Road last season and has recently completed a three-month stint at Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers.
Williams was hoping to persuade the 19-year-old to rejoin the club on loan with a view to a permanent deal in January.
But the Colchester manager has confirmed that Ephraim has rejected the chance of a second spell with the U's in order to stay at West Ham.
"We were looking to sign Hogan on a loan deal with a view to a permanent basis in January," Williams told the club's official website.
"As mentioned earlier, we have had talks with Hogan and his representatives, but he has since informed us that he won't be joining us at this moment in time."
