Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has surprisingly shown the door to long-serving defender Phil McGuire.

The 24-year-old defender has been informed he can leave the SPL outfit in the transfer window, as Calderwood looks to cull his squad.

While McGuire must now search for another club, Steve Tosh, Darren Mackie, Ricky Foster and Markus Heikkinen will be offered new deals.

Calderwood wished the player well and hinted that Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers could be potential suitors.

''Phil has been told he won't be offered a new contract and that if he wants to go this Christmas we won't stand in his way,'' Calderwood told The Daily Record.

''I have heard that QPR are interested in him and good luck to the lad wherever he lands up.''
