Mowbray eyes back-to-back wins

Tony Mowbray insists there will be no let-up following Coventry's 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Colchester 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena.

The decisive goal came in the 37th minute when Sky Blues skipper Jim O'Brien steered home from inside the box after a smart cut-back from left-back Chris Stokes. Clear-cut chances had been few and far between up until that point, with Coventry restricted to long-range shots and a tame effort from Colchester's Gavin Massey as close as it came for the visitors. Colchester came out much stronger at the start of the second half, with George Moncur and Massey both forcing home goalkeeper Lee Burge to turn shots away. Coventry had chances to double their lead, with Nick Proschwitz rounding the goalkeeper before striking the outside of a post, Frank Nouble blazing over from inside the box and substitute James Maddison crashing a shot against the crossbar from 18 yards. O'Brien's strike however proved enough to hand Sky Blues boss Mowbray his first home win. Mowbray said: "It obviously got a bit nervy with only one goal in it and we had lots of chances to give ourselves some breathing space, but that's football. "There's lot and lots we have to improve on still. We had a great work ethic and a great desire to do well for the club, but at times we have to have more control of the football. "It's three points, it doesn't matter how it comes about - we have to be happy to take that. "It is still very very tight down at the bottom half of the table - teams are picking up points so we have to keep going. "If we win on Tuesday it will hopefully give us a bit more breathing space. "The games start running out after that, so Tuesday night against Oldham becomes a massive game for us and one we are looking forward to." Colchester boss Tony Humes still believes his side have a chance of staying up, despite the defeat ending his side's four-match unbeaten run. Humes said: "We are still in with a chance. "A few teams have won above us, but it doesn't change the outcome we need - we need three wins at least. "It was a frustrating game. We didn't get the ball down and pass it in the first half, which limited our opportunities to get up the pitch and be creative. "A few words were said at half-time and we have to make sure the players know the expectations and go out and play. "In the first five minutes of the second half you could tell the difference, but it shouldn't take that from us. "I think we did enough to get something out of the game, and it's really disappointing we haven't. "We have to put it right on Tuesday."
