Grayson: Davies not finished

Simon Grayson hopes Kevin Davies still has more strikes in him after scoring his 150th career goal in Preston's 1-0 win over Coventry.

Davies headed home a Paul Gallagher cross after 21 minutes to reach his milestone and hand the hosts all three points. It also ended a run of five league games without a win for Preston and manager Grayson was full of praise for his match-winner, even if he was left wanting more after dumping Sheffield United out of the FA Cup on Tuesday night. "Kevin has been a wonderful servant to the game and he thoroughly deserves to get to that mark, it's been a long time coming," he said. "His overall play has been fantastic for us. For him to get to 150 goals speaks volume for the players and hopefully he will be able to get on the scoresheet a bit more. "We made hard work of it. We didn't have the energy and the tempo that we had on Tuesday night. "We've got to be better with decision making and we've told the players to push out and get the opposition playing in their half. "Ultimately we've not done as well as we would like to do but we've got the three points which is all that matters at times. "We've got the result but if we play like that most weeks we're not going to get to where we want to get to. "We set high standards on Tuesday night and we didn't really reach them here. Sometimes you have to grind games out and take the result rather than the performance." As for Coventry, they have now not won in five games and have still never tasted victory at Deepdale in the league after 18 visits. But manager Steven Pressley insists he can turn the Sky Blues' fortunes around. "I'm very confident we can arrest this run because the one thing is when you lose a game it's the manner in which you lose a game," Pressley said. "I think the appreciation of the supporters at the end of the game, staying behind applauding the players, kind of showed how much they appreciated the efforts of the players here. "The one disappointment for me is I really feel for them because they gave everything I asked of them here. "We went to three at the back, we went to 3-4-3 and we pushed young George Thomas on in the wider position and I thought he did exceptionally well. "We were chasing the game and getting the additional attacker on was a positive move to make. I thought George was terrific, he's a terrific young player. He's everything we want at this club."
