Bournemouth have won the race for Callum Wilson after signing the striker for an undisclosed fee from Coventry City.

Wilson was a target for several Championship clubs, including Norwich City, after scoring 22 goals in all competitions for Coventry last season.

However, the 22-year-old has plumped for a four-year contract at Bournemouth and Wilson is confident he has made the right decision.

“When I was asked at the end of last season whether I was going to stay, I really believed that I would be here at the start of next season," Wilson told Coventry’s official website.

“But, as the weeks have passed, there has been more and more interest from clubs in the Championship and it became clear to me that there was a real chance to play in a higher division.

“It gave me a really big decision to make and it’s not one I have taken lightly and I think most supporters will understand just how tough a choice this was for me.

“I have sat down and talked it through with (football development director) Steve Waggott  and (manager) Steven Pressley, my family, everyone at Bournemouth and it just felt like the right move at the right time."

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe added on his club’s official website: “He fits the profile of the type of player we look to sign. I think he is at the perfect age to kick on.

“He had a very good season last year and he’s 22 so hopefully his best seasons are ahead of him.

“He’s signed a four-year contract so we feel we can develop his game even further. We feel we can hopefully take his game to another level and we are very excited to work with him.”

As part of the deal, Bournemouth goalkeeper Ryan Allsop and winger Mohamed Coulibaly will join Coventry on loan until January.
