Paynter, Town's leading scorer this term with 29 goals, is out of contract in the coming weeks and is yet to sign the new and improved long-term deal on the table.
His indecision has led to intense speculation regarding his future, with Leeds the latest club to be linked with his services.
But fresh from Saturday's play-off final defeat to Millwall, manager Wilson has opted to release just two players - Kurt Hammonds and Mark Marshall.
Marshall has been at the County Ground since 2008 but has struggled to establish himself in the starting XI under Wilson, while fellow midfielder Hammonds has been plagued by injuries.
The future of winger Lloyd Macklin is also yet to be announced.
Midfielders Craig Easton and Michael Timlin and young goalkeeper Mark Scott have all been offered deals for next season.
The club's loan players - Danny Ward, Simon Ferry, Stephen Darby, Alan Sheehan and Frank Nouble - have now returned to their parent clubs for the time being at least.
Otherwise, Wilson will have the same squad of players for 2010/11 who claimed a fifth-placed finish in League One this term.
