Sedgwick and Elliott were close to joining Barnsley

Preston North End manager Darren Ferguson claims that Chris Sedgwick and Stephen Elliott were on the verge of joining Barnsley before a perceived agreement collapsed. North End believed that the pair were set to move to Oakwell in order to gain playing time but discussions broke down with their Championship rivals. Ferguson has been linked with a raid on former club Peterborough and he is hoping to make additional alterations to his squad to possibly make room for new arrivals. But it appears that midfielder Sedgwick and striker Elliott will not be joining Barnsley unless talks resume. Ferguson said: "I have to wheel and deal a little bit, we have five strikers at the club so Stephen needs to get out and play football. "Chris Sedgwick is out of contract in the summer so that's the situation with those two. "Barnsley enquired and we thought we had an agreement, but it has not worked out."
