Micky Adams insists Brighton made an offer for winger Andrew Whing when he was on loan at the League One club.
The Coventry manager, who sent Whing on loan to regain his confidence, has revealed that Albion tried to keep the player on a permanent basis.
Adams then recalled Whing before Christmas and described the offer made by Albion as unacceptable.
Adams told the Brighton Argus: "Brighton made an offer for him while he was on loan down there.
"It wasn't a written offer, it was an offer put to me by Dick Knight (Brighton Chairman) but I turned it down because it wasn't acceptable.
"We never said Andrew Whing was for sale, all I said was we were sending him down to Brighton to get games and get his confidence back.
"He is in my team at the moment and I think the lad himself would want to play in the Championship rather than League One."
