COVENTRY CITY ace John Eustace has been forced to undergo an operation to solve his nagging knee injury, after rest failed to cure the problem.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who was made captain of the side in the summer, has made just one appearance all campaign after struggling with his injury during pre-season.

The highly-rated star, who made his only appearance against Grimsby Town last month, is set to be out of action until December.

Sky Blues boss Roland Nilsson admitted that the club had no choice but to make Eustace to go under the knife to solve the problem.

"John has rested his knee since he did the injury in a pre-season match, but rest was not working," Nilsson told the club's official website.

"We advised him that perhaps the doctor should take a look inside to see whether there was something more.

"He had an exploratory operation on Monday and the surgeon found a small problem with a muscle at the side of the knee. It has been repaired and now John can rest knowing that the problem is solved.

"We expect him back some time in December."
