Hamilton boss Alex Neil looks set to take charge at Norwich after holding talks over the vacant manager’s role at the Sky Bet Championship club.

The 33-year-old, who also still plays for the Accies as a midfielder, was given permission to speak to Norwich by Hamilton and travelled to Norfolk on Wednesday.

Neil returned to Scotland on Thursday and called the Hamilton players into a meeting at midday when he was expected to tell them he was going to leave the Scottish Premiership club for Norwich.

The Hamilton players had Thursday off but Neil spoke to them before heading back down south to Carrow Road.

Neil will replace Neil Adams, who resigned as Canaries boss on Monday, just nine months after taking over the reins from Chris Hughton.

Neil has played for Hamilton since 2005 and was installed as manager in April 2013.

He guided the Accies to promotion via the play-offs last season and they are currently flying high in third place in the Scottish Premiership.

They have enjoyed a fine first half of the season with a record of 12 wins, three draws and five defeats in 20 matches so far.

Hamilton vice-chairman Ronnie Macdonald said: "We are delighted that Alex’s achievements have been recognised by this approach and that our policy of progressing players, staff and managers continues."
