Saints defender keen to press ahead with promotion push

Jos Hooiveld insists there is no chance of Southampton getting complacent as they close on a return to the Premier League. The Saints have opened up a five-point lead at the top of the Championship table on the back of an 11-match unbeaten run. There is, however, still a long way to go in the promotion race and they know they cannot afford to take anything for granted. Hooiveld claims everyone connected with the club is aware of the need to press on from this point, rather than relax, with football renowned for its ability to produce the unexpected.

Concentrate

"I'm experienced enough to not get carried away," said the 28-year-old Dutchman. "It's eight games and 24 points to play for so if we get 21 points then we're there aren't we? So let's concentrate on doing that. "It's a long way to go and if you have a bad spell you could drop three or four places, it's so close but it's nice to be on top where everybody wants to be. "When you're top it always looks favourable but I remember when West Ham were five points clear and that looked favourable so anything can happen."
