Anthony Pilkington: Knows Norwich cannot afford to take their foot off the gas

Sky Bet

Anthony Pilkington claims Norwich will not be getting carried away by their top-half standing, with survival still very much the target for the club this season.

The Canaries have surprised many with their level of performance, with few expecting Paul Lambert's side to make quite such an impression upon their return to the top-flight.

Norwich are, however, just eight points short of the fabled 40-point mark with 14 fixtures still to come.

They could be forgiven for thinking that they are already safe, with a second season among the Premier League elite all but secured.

Pilkington, though, insists no-one at Carrow Road is buying into that belief, with there no room to relax until they are mathematically guaranteed to avoid the drop.

"Nothing has changed," said the summer signing from Huddersfield, who was on target in the Canaries' 2-0 victory over Bolton on Saturday.

Building

"We had a plan at the start of the season and that was simply to stay in the Premier League. We aren't looking any further than that.

"If you take your eye off the ball then maybe you start doing things you aren't supposed to and stuff like that.

"So this season was always going to be about us surviving and then maybe building on that next season.

"Twelve points is a lovely gap for us to have but we aren't going to get carried away, because we know how tough this league is.

"You can never afford to take your foot off the gas."
