Black Cats bonding at the heart of the back four

Wes Brown believes his budding partnership with Michael Turner at the heart of Sunderland's back four will go from strength to strength. Brown, a summer arrival at the Stadium of Light from Manchester United, has had three different centre-half partners in 11 games this season. He has, however, been paired alongside Turner in his last five outings and an understanding between the two is starting to blossom. They have been able to keep just the one clean sheet so far, but Brown believes there is the promise of plenty more to come. He told the Evening Chronicle: "Michael has done brilliantly and in every game he has been even better. In the last game at Old Trafford he was superb. "He has had another 10 days of training and he will be flying again when we play Fulham this weekend.

Understanding

"Tina (Turner) is good in the air, good on the ball and we understand where each other is going and where to hold the line. "It is nice to keep the same partner and back four in general. "When I was at Manchester United, it chopped and changed quite a lot so I am used to it, but playing with the same person week in, week out does help." Regular international breaks have not helped Sunderland's cause this season but with no more friendly games due until February, Brown is looking for the Black Cats to kick on into the New Year. "The internationals stop now for the next few months and we can get into the swing of things," he added. "Don't get me wrong, most Premiership teams have to deal with internationals being away, but it does not help. "As a team, we have not been able to train together until today (Thursday)."
