Norwich City have confirmed that winger Simon Whaley's contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
The 24-year-old had fallen out of favour under manager Paul Lambert, who inherited the player from predecessor Bryan Gunn.
League One leaders Norwich have therefore decided to allow Whaley to permanently leave the club, having already permitted him to spend time on loan at Rochdale and Bradford this season.
The former Preston player moved to Carrow Road last summer but fell down the pecking order following Gunn's sacking shortly after the start of the season.
Whaley will now be a free agent and will begin the hunt for a new club for the remainder of the season.
