Peter Grant has admitted he is looking to bring Crewe Alexandra full-back Jon Otsemobor to Norwich City.
Otsemobor is out of contract in the summer and has confirmed he will not be signing an extension at Gresty Road.
Crewe boss Dario Gradi hinted the defender had already agreed a deal with Norwich, with Grant acknowledging he is hoping to sign the former Liverpool youngster.
"Jon is one of the guys we have looked at," said Grant. "There's no doubt about his talent and he's got a good background as well.
"We know he's out of contract, so we know all these things, but he's one of many players we have looked at.
"You are always interested in good players and if we can afford to get the best players available to us we will try to do that."
The Norwich manager also revealed he is waiting for teenage striker Chris Martin to sign a professional contract at Carrow Road.
He added: "Chrissy Martin knows what I think of him. I see him as a top quality prospect.
"He knows we want him to stay at Norwich City and we've given him an excellent offer. Not a very good offer - an excellent offer.
"The boy wants to stay here and wants to play for this club. There's no doubt about that."
