Kevin Blackwell is refusing to comment on Rob Hulse's future after Norwich made an enquiry for the Leeds striker.
Canaries boss Nigel Worthington has been quoted as saying the East Anglians have made an enquiry, but Blackwell, who has been on holiday, is unaware of the news.
After being informed Hulse is a wanted man Blackwell revealed his surprise, but side-stepped a comment on whether the club might be willing to do business.
Hulse was Leeds' leading scorer in The Championship and it would come as a surprise if they are willing to part with one of their premier strikers.
"I've been out of the country for four days and must admit you've caught me by surprise on this one, I didn't know anything about it," said Blackwell.
"I can't comment on it and won't comment further until I'm back in Leeds and that's all I can tell you."
Worthington had earlier been quoted as saying to the Eastern Daily Press: "Rob is a player we have enquired about. We would like to try to bring him to the club."
